Kalevi Ahonen's large Thesis on Trade between America and Baltic Russia contains over 30 references to Gibson's correspondence as consul. The source of these is the US National Archives, Washington, Record Group 59, General Records of the Department of State, Despatches from US consuls in St.Petersburg, 1803-1906, M-81.

1843 695 Portrait of the late Sir Robert Ker Porter, K.C.H., Her Majesty's Charge d'Affaires, etc., at Caraccas, Venezula Sir Robert Ker Porter (1777 - 1842), British painter, writer and diplomat. He spent time in St.Petersburg, so he may have known A.P. Gibson, the US Consul there. In 1825 he was appointed British consul in Caracas and La Guaira in Venezuela, living in Caracas until 1841. He died in St. Petersburg, in 1842.

Bischoff prepared a "preliminary sketch in water colours" which was described in the The Ipswich Journal, September 23, 1848.

The oil painting was commissioned for the Ipswich Museum and is still displayed there.
